What can I do?

About

Here at WWF-Australia, when we talk to people about living sustainably, they often mention that it’s very hard to find hands-on information about how to live sustainably - especially information that is Australian-focused. They want to do the “right thing” - but are unsure of what the “right thing” is. And finding out often takes a lot of time - a scarce resource itself in the hustle and bustle of modern life.

We created this site as a place where people can share their ideas, their stories, and what they’ve learnt. We hope that in sharing, it will be easier for more and more people to make the small life choices that add up to create a big positive impact on the planet.

Thanks for joining us on this journey towards sustainability. We hope the tips and stories here will be useful for you and that you will share your ideas here too. Your contribution can make a world of difference.

About the issues

The world’s leading scientists agree that the earth simply cannot continue to support us at the rate we are using its resources. Global warming, rapidly declining fish stocks, land degradation caused by land clearing, and the rapidly growing numbers of extinct species are all signs that something is wrong with the planet we call home - Earth.

Every day we shape our planet’s future when we make small life decisions - what we buy, what we eat, how we travel. For example:

  • When we drive, the fuels we use pollute the atmosphere causing health issues and contributes to global warming;
  • The seafood we eat often comes from areas that have extremely low stocks - some species, like deep sea perch, are threatened;
  • The electricity that runs our houses and workplaces often comes from burning coal, which contributes to global warming.

The future of our planet is in our hands; the future is man-made. And we are all “Futuremakers”.

Alternatives to many of these damaging practices exist; solutions that allow us to continue living a prosperous and vibrant life, but not at the expense of the planet.

WWF’s work includes helping to identify these alternatives and make them a reality. But we obviously can’t do it alone - we need your help.

About WWF-Australia

WWF-Australia is part of the WWF International Network, the world’s largest and most experienced independent conservation organisation. The WWF network has close to five million supporters and is active in more than 100 countries.

Our mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.

To achieve this we work on the ground with local communities, and in partnership with government and industry, using the best possible science to advocate change and effective conservation policy.
